Interview with our Engineer, Simone Girotti

The new frontiers of automation inevitably lead us to talk about home automation and its application in the swimming pool sector.

To do this, we interviewed Eng. Simone Girotti, After-Sales and Home Automation Manager at Professione Piscina.

What is domotics in the swimming pool for and what is it applicable to?
Home automation in swimming pools, as in the rest of other sectors, is ment to simplify and improve the quality of life by adopting all the tools and techniques derived from the application of technology. In our sector it is applicable to all those devices that are electrically powered or controlled, such as
the switching on and off of pumps, lights, the color change of the lights, the automatic washing of the filter, the automatic control/correction of the water parameters via dedicated control units or even the organization of the opening or closing of the rolling shutter in a automatic based on the time or weather conditions. In short, the application limit in home automation stops only at the person's imagination.

How exactley does it work?
The operation of home automation in general avail itself of specially developed electronics with communication protocols that normally make use of the internet as a means of transporting data to communicate with the desired device and make it carry out the operations requested. We must not forget that the home automation service that our company offers is among the most complete and advanced in the swimming pool sector, with engineers who work on the research and development of innovative solutions. We are able to offer an almost 100% domotic control service.

What are the benefits for the customer?
The advantages of home automation are multiple and suitable for simplifying daily life:
• Remote control of all our devices: lights, heating/cooling, management of consumption.
• The automation of multiple actions following a given operation, such as joint switching off of lights and heating and closing shutters when nobody is in the house.
• Energy saving with consequent reduction of consumption and management costs.

Is there any aspect of swimming pool management that cannot be automated?
The only operations that cannot today be automated are manual cleaning of any baskets, such as the pump pre-filter or the cleaning of the pool edge with degreasing products and the replacement of chemical products when they run out. In our company, we have trained and dedicated after-sales personnel who keep the installed home automation devices under daily control to report any anomalies and thus prevent any damage/problems by intervening promptly to restore correct operation, as quickly as possible.

Let's talk about possible problems that may occur: breakdowns or electrical problems, for example. What happens in these cases?
As far as we're concerned, in addition to home automation we always opt for "classic" swimming pool management so that, if it should stop working for various reasons, with a simple switch you can pass on to control the swimming pool in complete autonomy, excluding the home automation but still being able to continue to use the pool efficiently.

You are a Mechatronics Engineer, responsible for all the automation aspects of the swimming pools you build. What kind of preparation is required to competently manage domotic and after-sales service in your sector?
The preparation required to obtain this level of knowledge and efficiency involves many hours of training and supervision of our staff, on each of the different control units/devices that we have adopted over the years. In our laboratory, we have created an ad-hoc test area for testing and repairing the various power units, pumps and other devices and also for researching new solutions.

What is your strong point in assisting customers with this tool?
Definitely being able to manage the pool completely by remote, without the customer having to worry about anything. We are able to notify the customer of any anomalies and intervene promptly to prevent any damage or problem, as well as being able to follow it remotely via videocall for management of the swimming pool. We are always present and the customer is never left alone.
