The new frontiers of automation inevitably lead us to talk about home automation and its application in the swimming pool sector.

Home automation for swimming pools is the application of technology to automate and remotely control all the functions of the pool. Thanks to these systems, pool management shifts from a complex and demanding task to an experience of pure comfort and relaxation, allowing you to fully enjoy your aquatic space without stress.

In a modern, high-end swimming pool, like those built by Professione Piscina, home automation is not just an optional feature: it is an integral and fundamental element that combines aesthetics, functionality, and innovation, turning every dive into a moment of luxury and well-being.

To better understand how it works and how it is applied to the swimming pool sector, we interviewed Eng. Simone Girotti, graduate in Mechatronics and Head of After-Sales and Home Automation at Professione Piscina.

What is the purpose of pool automation and where can it be applied?

Home automation in swimming pools, as in other sectors, is designed to simplify and improve daily life by adopting all the tools and techniques derived from the application of technology.

In our sector, it can be applied to all devices that are electrically powered or controlled, such as:

  • switching pumps and lights on and off,

  • changing the color of lights,

  • automatic filter backwashing,

  • automatic monitoring/correction of water parameters through dedicated control units.

In short, one could say that the limits of pool automation are defined only by the imagination.

How does it work exactly?

Pool home automation is based on the use of advanced electronics and communication protocols that use the internet to transmit commands to the various pool devices. In practice, you can control lights, heating, pumps, filtration, and other systems directly from your smartphone, tablet, or PC, from anywhere, in real time.

Home automation systems for swimming pools allow automatic and constant control of water quality, making management simple and precise. Thanks to advanced sensors, the pool is monitored in real time for key parameters such as pH, chlorine, or other disinfectants.

How is pool cleaning regulated?

Automation control units automatically release the exact amount of chemicals required, without any manual intervention. This system guarantees water that is always crystal clear and hygienically safe, eliminates the need for daily manual testing, reduces chemical waste, and increases swimmer safety. In this way, the pool becomes not only easier to manage but also more sustainable and efficient.

And what about temperature and lighting management?

Thanks to home automation, it is possible to control and program the pool heating system, such as a heat pump, directly from a smartphone or tablet. You can set the desired temperature before even arriving home or schedule specific times to optimize energy consumption. This level of control not only ensures immediate comfort but also allows you to extend the swimming season, turning every dive into a luxury experience, regardless of the time of year.

As for smart LED lighting systems, you can switch lights on and off remotely, change colors, adjust brightness, and create customized lighting scenarios, such as “relaxing evening” or “poolside party.” In an infinity pool, this feature enhances the aesthetics and architecture of the overflow edge, creating unique and evocative atmospheres, perfect for moments of relaxation or exclusive events. The combination of design and technology transforms the pool into a true luxury space.

Can accessories and water features also be managed?

Absolutely yes! With home automation, it is possible to manage all pool accessories and water features from a single control point. You can automatically open or close covers, ensuring safety, cleanliness, and water temperature maintenance. Similarly, you can activate waterfalls, water blades, counter-current swimming, or hydromassage, creating customized scenarios for every need. All of this is easily managed remotely, transforming the pool into a fully adaptable environment, always ready for use, with the level of personalization typical of luxury pools.

How is a smart pool controlled?

The control of a smart pool takes place through intuitive interfaces, such as smartphone and tablet apps or touchscreen panels installed in the home. These systems conceal all the technological complexity, allowing you to manage lighting, heating, filtration, water features, and accessories with just a few taps. The key idea is that, despite advanced technology behind it, the user experience remains simple and immediate, putting total pool control within everyone’s reach and turning every moment into one of luxury and comfort.

What are the benefits for the client?

With a smart pool, management becomes easy and intuitive, turning every moment into an experience of relaxation and luxury. The client can therefore enjoy numerous benefits:

  • Smart and effortless management: control lights, temperature, filtration, and covers from your smartphone or tablet, wherever you are;

  • More personal time, since routine tasks are automated, minimizing manual operations;

  • Optimized consumption, as there is less waste of water, energy, and chemicals, resulting in tangible savings on maintenance costs;

  • Increased safety, thanks to constant monitoring of water parameters and automated covers;
    Added value for the home. A smart pool certainly enhances the prestige and appeal of the entire property, making it more modern and desirable.

Thanks to home automation, the pool truly becomes an exclusive, elegant environment that is always ready for use.

Are there any aspects of pool management that cannot be automated?

The only operations that currently cannot be automated are manual cleaning tasks, such as emptying baskets like the pump pre-filter, cleaning the pool edges with degreasing products, and replacing chemicals when they run out.

Let’s also talk about potential issues that may arise, such as malfunctions or electrical problems. What happens in these cases?

These situations can always occur. For our part, in addition to automation, we always opt for a “classic” manual management system. This way, if the automated system stops working for any reason, a simple switch allows the pool to be controlled independently, bypassing automation while still enabling efficient use of the pool.

What kind of training is required to competently manage automation and after-sales service in your sector?

As a Mechatronics Engineer responsible for the pools we build, I can say that the preparation required to ensure competence and efficiency is very thorough. Those who handle these systems need knowledge in mechatronics, electronics, and automation, as well as familiarity with the various communication protocols used by pool devices such as pumps, filters, heating, and lighting systems. For this reason, our staff undergo many hours of training and supervision, specific to each type of control unit and device we have adopted over the years.

Practical experience is also essential: staff must have undergone specific training on each control unit and device, carried out installation and maintenance tests, and know their operation thoroughly. To ensure a high-quality service, we have set up a dedicated test area in our laboratory for the verification, repair, and optimization of control units, pumps, and other devices. Here, we can also develop and test innovative new solutions, ensuring that after-sales service is fast, reliable, and highly professional. This preparation allows us to offer clients complete and qualified support, with precise and timely interventions, while maintaining the maximum efficiency and safety of every automated pool system.

What is Professione Piscina’s strength in assisting clients with this tool?

In our company, we have trained and dedicated after-sales staff who monitor the installed automation devices daily to detect any anomalies and prevent potential issues, intervening promptly to restore proper functioning as quickly as possible.
I would like to point out that our company’s automation service is among the most complete and innovative in the pool sector: our team of engineers is also capable of developing cutting-edge solutions to guarantee near-100% automated control, efficiency, safety, and ease of use.
