We are thrilled to present our interview with architects Alberto Mammoli and Giammario Volatili, of Studio M3Progetti, with whom we had the privilege of collaborating for the creation of the two swimming pools of Villa Orizzonte. A project that was able to combine innovation and respect for the natural context, creating a space in which design and nature blend harmoniously and refinedly.
What inspired the design of the two pools? What was the concept behind the design and project of Villa Orizzonte?
The project was born from a deep reflection on the relationship between architecture and the surrounding nature. For the outdoor pool, the idea was to create a direct link with the environment, trying to merge the water with the landscape. We were inspired by the natural beauty of the site and wanted the pool to be an extension of it, in perfect harmony with the panorama, without interrupting its harmony. The choice of a rectangular and modern shape, positioned on a steep terrain on top of a hill, was a challenge. However, our goal was to be able to insert it into the context in such a way as not to alter the perception of the landscape but, on the contrary, to enhance its beauty. As for the indoor pool, the concept was completely different: a more intimate and cozy environment, which winds around one wall of the room, creating a feeling of privacy and comfort. Here too, we wanted to strengthen the bond with nature, integrating wooden walls to infuse warmth and welcome into the environment. For the pool and the edge, we chose a marble-effect stoneware, playing with elegant shades of black and white, creating a visual continuity that also extends to the outdoor flooring, for a harmonious and fluid effect.
To what extent was the execution of the project challenging, or was it a smooth and trouble-free process?This project was certainly not without its challenges, but it was also a bold project, which required courage. We wanted to dare, adopting non-traditional solutions that required careful planning and reflection. An example? The indoor swimming pool. Its waterproofing, inspectionability and other technical factors related to its construction required extremely detailed planning. But, thanks to the support of Professione Piscina, which was able to capture the essence of the project and guide us expertly throughout the entire process, we were able to successfully realize our ideas.

The collaboration was very positive. We appreciated the expertise and attention you put into every phase of the project. Special thanks to your Engineer Lorenzo Girotti, who made our work much easier
thanks to the compatibility of his software with those used by our studio. Communication was always quick and precise,
with timely responses to our requests for changes or clarifications. The work teams were also special, and they carried out every part of the project with precision and dedication.
Based on your experience, what are the critical points in building a swimming pool?
A fundamental aspect to consider is the management of the entire process by a single company. We strongly recommend it, as having a single contact person greatly facilitates project management. When the work is divided into phases and entrusted to different companies, the risk of discontinuity and problems increases. This is even more true for high-level pools, such as those at Villa Orizzonte, which require high-profile technical preparation to deal with delicate aspects such as waterproofing, coating, management of drying times and so on. Furthermore, as in our case, the conformation of the land and the presence of differences in height further complicate things. The construction of a pool that fits naturally into the landscape requires advanced technical skills in all aspects: aesthetic, functional and structural.
What are the essential requirements for creating a high-level swimming pool?For a high-quality project, it is essential to have advanced software tools that allow you to verify and monitor every aspect, from design to technique. Every detail, from the functionality of the spaces in the water to the design of the technical room, must be taken into account to ensure that the pool is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also fully functional and safe for the customer. The integrated approach between aesthetics and technique is essential to achieve a successful project.
